On to the Flinders Ranges
Apparently I was talking in my sleep last night, which I'm sure is not something I normally do, so mildly embarrassed by that this morning! It must've been the stress of staying in a room full of farting, snoring lads!
There was supposed to be a guy joining our tour this morning (goodness knows what tempted him to stay in Coober Pedy more than one night!), but he never turned up so we left without him. We stopped just outside the town to get a good picture of the lovely sunrise, then again at a roadhouse in Glendambo, where I bought an incredibly greasy potato cake, which was more like a scallop really, as that's all I could afford at 90c! We nearly ran into some emus on the road too, the pesky critters!
Our next stop was Lake Hart, one of Central Australia's many salt lakes, left over from when Central Australia was an inland sea. There was no water in it, just a layer of crunchy salt, and it was like walking on warm frost! They apparently tested landmines here, so you can only walk so far onto it safely.
We hit the South Coast at Port Augusta (Bogan (layabout) Capital of Australia!) around 3.15pm, which was quite scary as we've gone from the north to the south coast in about two weeks! Claire went to the pharmacy for some advice on her hand (it was still no better than when she first burnt it), while we sat in the grass for a bit next to the port. Then it was a u-turn back up north through the Flinders Ranges to get to our camp for the night - an ex sheep station called Rawnsley Park. We had a chicken casserole tea and played an incredibly funny game of Pictionary. Also rang Mum and she's bought a caravan. At night it was absolutely freezing - I got up twice from being cold, once to see if wrapping my towel around me would make a difference, then again to just pile on a load of clothes from my rucksack cos I was still cold! Then, in the morning, we discovered than the cupboard in the corner was filled with blankets!
PS. Phrase of the Day: "Sex Fruit!" - shouted by Christina during pictionary while Claire was trying to portray the word 'exotic'.
